David G. Carroll, CFA – Senior Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager

As Portfolio Manager, Mr. Carroll is responsible for advising institutional and high net worth clients regarding investment policy development, asset allocation and risk management. He monitors portfolios and implements the asset allocation model as customized by clients’ needs and goals. He is a member of our Fixed Income Strategy Group, which approves investment managers and monitors research efforts. He is responsible for implementing strategy decisions, as determined by the Equity, Fixed Income and Complements Strategy Groups, into the investment portfolios of individual clients as well as foundations and endowments.

Mr. Carroll has over 25 years of experience in the investment arena. Prior to joining Cleary Gull, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager with JPMorgan Private Client Services. Other investment experience includes trading distressed securities for Cargill and managing high yield bond funds for AAL Capital Management and Fortis Advisors.

Mr. Carroll earned both an MBA and a BS in Business from the University of Minnesota. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is actively involved with the Duke Pride booster club for Whitefish Bay High School.

Joseph F. Hickey, CFA – Director of Equity Strategy, Portfolio Manager

As Portfolio Manager, Mr. Hickey is responsible for advising institutional and high net worth clients regarding investment policy development, asset allocation and risk management. He monitors portfolios and implements the asset allocation model as customized by clients’ needs and goals. As the head of our Equity Strategy Team, he contributes to Cleary Gull’s strategic and tactical asset allocations. He is responsible for implementing strategy decisions, as determined by the Equity, Fixed Income and Complements Strategy Groups, into client investment portfolios.

Mr. Hickey brings over 27 years of investment industry experience to his role at Cleary Gull. Prior to joining Cleary Gull, Mr. Hickey was Managing Director of Investment Banking with Tucker Anthony Sutro Capital Markets where his duties included syndicating and underwriting the firm’s public and private equity offerings.

He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute and the Investment Analyst Society of Milwaukee. He is a frequent speaker at investment and business leader forums on topics such as global economics, portfolio management and investment market bubbles. Mr. Hickey received a BS in Economics and his MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Mr. Hickey has a Commercial, Multi-Engine Instrument rating and is an Angel Flight Volunteer.

Brian K. Andrew, CFA – Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Andrew leads the investment research and strategy teams and is integral in establishing the firm’s investment policies and identifying strategies across all asset classes. Having worked as a Chief Investment Officer, Chief Operating Officer, President, Portfolio Manager and Analyst for mutual fund and money management firms, he contributes to business and client services practices throughout the organization. In addition, he brings considerable experience in investment management for the health care and senior living industries. He chairs the firm’s Investment Policy Committee and Complements Strategy Group as well as serves on the Equity and Fixed Income Strategy Groups. Mr. Andrew provides economic insight through monthly published pieces, webcasts and other outside media outlets.

Mr. Andrew began his career as an analyst and portfolio manager managing equity and fixed income investments for personal and institutional clients at First Bank Systems and then Bank One Investment Advisors. He then formed a private money management firm where, as a principal, he was responsible for managing money for institutional clients and managing restricted assets for public debt issuers. That firm was sold to Ziegler Cos., Inc., where Mr. Andrew served as portfolio manager, Chief Investment Officer and then President of the money management subsidiary and mutual fund company. During his tenure at Ziegler, he was responsible for developing fixed income and equity portfolio management teams that served as money manager to the health care industry and institutional consultants.

Mr. Andrew currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Marquette University Applied Investment Management Program. He has also been active in varying capacities on the boards of several municipal and not-for-profit organizations and currently serves on the Advisory Board for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, College of Health Sciences. Mr. Andrew received his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the Milwaukee and Chicago Investment Analyst Societies. He received a BS in business and finance from the University of Minnesota and completed the Harvard Business School/CFA Institute Investment Management Program.

Wendy W. Stojadinovic, CFA – Director of Fixed Income Strategy

Ms. Stojadinovic conducts investment due diligence and designs investment strategies for the fixed income allocation of client portfolios. This includes addressing portfolio goals such as cash flow management, analyzing portfolio attribution, conducting manager due diligence and applying risk management techniques. Ms. Stojadinovic is a member of the firm’s Investment Policy Committee and chairs the Fixed Income Strategy Group. In her role, she leads a team of professionals from across the organization in providing strategic and tactical investment direction and due diligence for nearly $1 billion in fixed income assets for institutional, public funds and private clients. Ms. Stojadinovic has been instrumental in adding technology and streamlining processes to enhance the firms’ fixed income capabilities.

Prior to joining Cleary Gull, Ms. Stojadinovic worked as a Vice President and Fixed Income Portfolio Manager at Ziegler Capital Management. Her capabilities are further enhanced by experience as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager and Equity Analyst at Campbell Newman Asset Management and through past responsibilities for performance and attribution measurement and compliance with Global Investment Performance Standards.

Ms. Stojadinovic is a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Milwaukee, where she currently serves on the Board of Directors and formerly served as President. Ms. Stojadinovic received a BBA degree in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is a registered investment professional. She has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Charles J. Batchelor, CFA – Director of Investment Research

Mr. Batchelor is responsible for analysis of managers and funds and their investment portfolios with a focus on the global, developed and emerging international, and natural resources asset classes. In this role, he is regularly in contact with investment managers and contributes analysis for over 20 investments for use throughout the organization. In addition, he works closely with our senior professionals, chief investment officer and portfolio managers providing investment and portfolio analytics, due diligence on new investment opportunities and reporting support for institutional client relationships. He is a member of the Equity Strategy Group.

Mr. Batchelor’s previous experience includes an internship at a financial corporation where he was a member of the Investment Research and Communication Team. His responsibilities included conducting competitor analysis on intermediary partner platforms, client portfolio analysis and supporting client servicing efforts.

Mr. Batchelor graduated summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in Finance. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Society of Milwaukee.

Thomas R. Scholz, CFA, CIPM – Research Analyst

Mr. Scholz is responsible for analysis of managers and funds. In this role, he is regularly in contact with investment managers and contributes analysis for use throughout the organization. Mr. Scholz brings invaluable investment industry experience to his role at Cleary Gull. He works closely with our senior professionals and portfolio managers providing investment and portfolio analytics, due diligence on new investment opportunities and reporting support for institutional client relationships. Mr. Scholz is a member of the firm’s Equity Strategy and Non-Traditional Strategy Groups.

Prior to joining Cleary Gull, Mr. Scholz was the manager of the Analytics Group at Harris Associates, L.P. in Chicago, where he worked for eight years. Before joining Harris Associates, he served as a risk and performance analyst at Goldman Sachs in London. He also has work experience as an English Teacher in Buenos Aires and as an Investment Accountant at American Express Financial Advisors in Minneapolis.

Mr. Scholz passed the CPA exam and currently serves as an advisor to the CFA Institute serving on the CIPM Examination Review Panel. Mr. Scholz majored in Finance and Accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received his MBA from the University of Chicago.
